Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Addis Ababa. Start the trip driving to the coffee region of Kaffa. Visit Jima with AbaJifar palace and museum. Proceed to Bonga and visit a coffee plantation. Lunch box on the way; dinner & ON camping

 

Day 2

Proceed to Mizanteferi for permits, visiting Dizi people on the way. Then drive to ShoaGhimira to visit the Menit and Surma people. Continue to Tum. Lunch on the way; dinner & ON camping in Tum

 

Day 3

Visit Surma people. The Surma are famous for their traditions, women wearing plates into their lips and men different scarification all over their body. With luck you could find a donga: the Surma people stick fighting game.Lunch box; dinner & ON camping

 

Day 4

roceed to Nyangatom villages and visit this very interesting tribe. Drive then to the other very colorful Karo people and visit their villages; fantastic view from Kortcho village. Lunch box; dinner & ON camping at Duss

 

Day 5

Drive to visit the Hamer people, to Turmi. With luck we try to visit ceremonies as bull jumping & Evangadi dance. The Hamar are known for their unique custom of “bull jumping” which initiates a boy into manhood. First, female relatives dance and invite whipping from men who have recently been initiated; this shows their support of the initiate, and their scars give them a right to demand his help in time of need. The boy must run back and forth twice across the backs of a row of bulls or castrated steers, and is ridiculed if he fails.  Meals & ON

 

Day 6

Full day for the very colorful Hamer people, famous for the decorative hairstyles and ornaments. Visit also the very colorful Hamer, Karo & Dassanech people market (from around 11am to about 2pm). Day 7

Early morning drive to Omorate, at Omo river bank, to visit the Dassanech people. Proceed then to the border and make necessary process. Enter into Kenya at Ileret border & proceed to Sibiloi National park. Late afternoon have a game drive. Lunch box on the day; dinner & ON camping or lodge  

 

Day 8

Have an early morning game driver. Then drive to Loyangalani, at Turkana Lake. Lunch on the way; dinner & ON lodge at Turkana

 

Day 9

Admire the Turkana and Elmolo people and very interesting villages. Lunch on the way; dinner & ON lodge at Turkana

 

Day 10

Cross Chelbi desert and reach Marsabit National park. Late afternoon if time permits have a game drive. Lunch on the way; dinner & ON lodge

 

Day 11

Visit Borena people (Kenya & Ethiopia Borena) and their villages. Reach Moyale border and enter into Ethiopia. Lunch on the way; dinner & ON hotel in Moyale

 

Day 12

Visit ElSod crater (where form a marshy lake men extra salt for their cattle), the singing wells and then drive to Yirgalem Lunch on the way; dinner & ON lodge

 

Day 13

Drive to the Rift valley lakes of Awasa, Shala & Abyata National park and Langano; relax then at Langano lake, the only blamable of the Rift Valley in Ethiopia. Lunch on the way; dinner & ON Hara Langano or Sabana lodge

 

Day 14

Drive to Addis Ababa. Dinner invited in a traditional restaurant with folkloristic dances. Then transfer airport for departure.
